Let's Talk About Responsibility

Let's talk a little about responsibility.

If a healthy person who is able to work but decides that he doesn't want to work; he would rather transfer his individual responsibilities to the State (other tax paying citizens), does society at large consider that person a responsible person or irresponsible?

If a person decided that they did not want to recycle or care for the environment, they would rather transfer those responsibilities and costs to the State (other tax paying citizens) would that person be considered responsible or irresponsible?

I believe that most readers would agree that in the above examples, transferring social responsibilities to others would be considered inappropriate and irresponsible.

Why then when it comes to self-defense do gun lawy encourage law abiding citizens be at the mercy of the lawless and/or force them to only rely on the police for their protection? Is this not a tranfer of personal responsibility as well?

Why not own your responsibility, prepare yourself and carry a firearm?
